MAGICAL INFORMATION

Title: Mage
Rank: 1
Slots: 1/1

Magical Aid: Familiar- Red-Spotted Purple Butterfly, which they've nicknamed Morning Star. It gives Avalon access to their magical form, though they do not use their familiar as a foci.

Magic Overview:
Ava's magic is somewhat rigid. It allows them to branch into magica that is similar, though not related to the magica they were born with: Pollen Manipulation. However, to learn any magica directly related to electricity, fire, or water would be far too difficult, if not impossible.

Magica - Pollen Manipulation
Avalon's magic allows them to extract and manipulate any existing pollen from the air and in plants to use offensively and defensively. While not in their magical form, Ava is able to simply manipulate a flower or two's worth of pollen from one place to another. When in their magical form, Avalon can extract about 10 feet's (~3 meter's) worth of pollen when directed straight forward.

Limitations:
  • In order to manipulate any pollen, they require a source to extract the it from; this typically includes flowers, wildflowers being the easiest source to manipulate from.
  • When there aren't many flowers around, they can try and extract any pollen from the air; though, that leaves them with a weaker source to work with
  • In too-polluted areas, or areas where soil is weak and therefore the flowers are as well, the amount of pollen they can extract is minimal as well.
  • They can compile enough pollen to serve as a weak shield, which would likely only help cushion a blow.
  • The larger the area they try to shield, the thinner the pollen will be as they can only compile enough to reach about 10 feet when directed straight forward.
  • Strong winds, whether by magica or natural sources, can easily blow the pollen out of their control.
  • Fire and water magica/elements can also get past the pollen easily.
  • When used offensively, they can push the pollen out, but it's not powerful enough to do much more than throw pollen dust into someone's eyes currently or be used to obscure someone's vision slightly.

PERSONAL INFORMATION

Personality:
|| Determined | Empathetic | Loyal || Indecisive | Playful | Clumsy || Aggressive | Anxious | Easily Frustrated ||

Once they start something, Ava finds themself having to finish it, no matter how long it takes, or how hard it may be. Ava often mirrors the emotions of those around them, and when they can't relate to a certain situation, they will do their best to understand the situation. When Ava makes a friend, they're there to stay for said friend, and very rarely will leave them to fend for themselves, no matter how wrong or right the other might be in a situation, nor how much of an emotional or physical strain may be put on Avalon.

They have a hard time making decisions, and often try to avoid getting in situations where they would have to; alternatively, they make another person make the decision(s) for them. Being pressured to make a choice for things makes them anxious, and they would rather then put the decision-making off and deal with it at a later time. They're very playful, and tend to brush off their indecision or indifference with jokes and teasing. Though, sometimes they may get carried away and this leads to them making the wrong jokes or prods in the wrong moments. They're clumsy, and tend to stumble around their words as well as their feet; because of this, Ava doesn't usually start conversations, or know how to hold one very well, and are usually covered in bruises and bandaids.

Ava has the tendency to react to things aggressively when they aren't expecting something, or when they're not actively trying to interact with others. They're easily startled, and will often flail about to slap people away from them in these moments before awkwardly apologizing and trying to pretend it never happened. Avalon second guesses a lot of what they do, and tends to proceed with things only after they've gotten another person's approval. When it comes to any personal projects, Ava finds themself often getting frustrated with situations and themself, annoyed that they can't do things as properly as they wished they could, or learn/understand things as fast as they wish they could.

History:
Avalon Étaín had never had any contact with magic, as far as they knew. Though, they always had a strong bond with family, and nothing else seemed to matter.

They were adopted with their older sibling, Meredith, as toddlers by an Ayden Étaín, and from that moment on, Avalon's life went by with melodies galore. Ayden was often playing one instrument or other at home, and Avalon found themself drawn to it. When not at home, they were often taking walks along the beach or going to the nearby parks. They quickly discovered their love for the outdoors, and their affinity for plants. A lot of their early books revolved around flowers and different types of plants, and they would always be found reading one of them when family came over to visit, or when they visited family. Which soon became a frequent occurrence in the Étaíns' lives. They were constantly surrounded by family, and there came a time where Avalon found their sibling's and Ayden's company far too few.

Around the time Avalon was nine, the three moved to London when Ayden received a better job offer. Not long after the move, Ayden adopted a third child, who Avalon proceeded to absolutely spoil when Ayden and their older sibling weren't looking.

When they were ten, their class took a trip to a butterfly conservation. Avalon spent their time noting which flowers were there, and payed the butterflies little attention, and their instructor even less. Drifting farther into the clusters of flowers, Avalon noticed more and more dust floating up into the air. Looking around them, the air seemed to be speckled gold, as if the pollen had risen up and surrounded them. For a moment, it looked almost . . . magical, like something out of a storybook, and Avalon was absolutely enchanted.

However, their name was suddenly called. Avalon whipped around, startled, and sent a small cloud of pollen toward the unsuspecting instructor. A small butterfly swarm, an allergy-induced-sniffly phone call home, and an expulsion from the school later, Avalon decided something had to be wrong with them and they couldn't go near flowers anymore.

They withdrew a bit, refusing to retell the story to Ayden and their siblings, and just proceeded to be enrolled in a new school and went on with their life. Ava did their best to avoid going near too many plants, and avoided the outdoors best they could, during spring and autumn especially. Any flowers they would get for birthdays would go on ignored and kept at the farthest part of the house, or outside. Two years later, a middle school graduation led to Ayden giving them flowers, and in Avalon's excitement, they caused pollen to rise up and encircle the two in a thin layer.

Confused, and having no prior background with magic, Ayden wasn't quite sure what to do, nor did he initially understand Avalon's panic. Several vague Google searches later, Ayden was able to approach Avalon on the topic, and the two concluded that so long as Avalon wasn't harming anyone, a couple of random spurts of magical pollen couldn't possibly be that bad, no matter what accidents had happened before. Time went on, and Avalon managed to get a grasp on 'feeling' their abilities, and got to a point where they wouldn't stir any pollen unless they concentrated hard.

The next few years went by in a rush. Around the time Avalon was 13, they adopted another child, and Avalon worked on helping them adjust. Not long after they turned 16, they received a letter. Something about a transitional magic school, though it'd require them leaving home, and going to a place all alone.

They pushed that thought aside, and instead give themself different excuses: they had a responsibility at home with taking care of the younger kids, of being there for Meredith, of needing to help their dad, and with their current school; so Avalon decided to stash the letter and consider it another time, when there was less to do. Months went by, and while Avalon did their best not to think about the invitation, they couldn't help but keep wondering if maybe this school was their gateway to learning more about themself, about their powers. If maybe it was something they could hone, rather than hide, and build upon, rather than try and suppress. They thought up ways to approach Ayden with it, and reworded the possibility of moving time and time again, but came up short.

Until one day Ayden was helping them clean their room and pulled out what looked like a blank piece of paper, which Avalon rushed to pull it away from him. Facing the question of what was that about?, they decided to simply look down at the letter, and read it. By the time they finished, they were met with a grinning Ayden, an expression that screamed pride and curiosity on his face. They decided together that it'd be best for Avalon to go, despite the ever-growing panic in Avalon's chest of going to a strange place to learn about a concept they had never encountered outside of stories and themself.

But, after the tightest hugs to their siblings and parent, Avalon took in a deep breath, picked up their suitcase, and looked down at their letter. Closing their eyes, they whispered three words:

"Take me there."

EXTRA INFORMATION

  • Avalon is used to company, having grown up with three other siblings and fairly close to their father. Even if they're just around others in an 'alone-together' sense, they're much happier than being totally secluded.
  • They have an older sibling, Meredith, who is older than them by a year; and two younger siblings: Sage and Jessamine. Sage is seven years younger, and Jessie is thirteen years younger.
  • Most of their music playlist is made up of piano and guitar instrumentals, and anime soundtracks
  • They most likely stay up most nights watching anime, or trying to memorize songs
  • They're not the best singer, but nothing's stopping them when they're alone or around people they're comfortable with. Though, Avalon does enjoy dancing
  • They hoard all sorts of plants and books, and most of their plants have names. Ava doesn't mind sleeping on the ground, their books and plants need a comfortable place to stay more than they do.
  • Ava tried learning piano and violin, though they're not very good at either
  • Their familiar, Morning Star, likes to nestle in people's hair, especially more colorful hair as they seem to resemble flowers.
  • Ava has a ridiculous amount of different flower- and -music themed hair clips and hair ties. They're also likely to have at least six attached to their wrists at all time.
  • They cut their hair on their own, and tries to fluff it out as much as possible so any mistakes look intentional- it only works half of the time
  • They have a blue guitar pick with a light pink camellia flower design over it on a necklace, given to them by their dad.
  • Ava really enjoys skateboarding! And will take every chance they can nyoom around on one.
  • Avalon is fluent in Brazilian Portuguese and English, and can understand French better than they speak it.
  • They have way too many plushies, and can't sleep without at least one of them being there
  • *These nicknames are ones Meredith has given them, and they will only answer to them if Meredith is the one using it, unless they're close friends with you.
  • They have dimples, but I am forgetful |'D one day they'll be added in a non-awkward way

  • Lit | My post length and replying time tends to fluctuate with my mood as well as how much time life/school is giving me. I tend to wing rps, but don't mind planning out things either! Just let me know what you prefer. Headcanons are also fun if we aren't up to rping, and if you'd like to HC to find inspiration for an rp I'm down for that as well!
  • Skype | This is the easiest way to reach me, and will require less wait time for rps/hcs. Short and long-term rps are good here for me.
  • Discord | This is the second easiest way to reach me, and also requires less wait time. Short/long-term rps are also good.
  • Notes/Other | I'm up for any suggestions to other places to rp/hc! Though, I tend to be a little slower in locations other than the two above.
